Zenith Defy Inventor, Limited Edition and discontinued prototype
Here it is- the watch that everyone has been waiting for since 2017, that Zenith has never mass produced and quietly stopped working on. Ref. 95.9002.9100/76.R919
The Defy Inventor!
A revolutionary new oscillator system sits inside this timepiece, and it replaces the typical escapement, balance wheel, pallet fork, etc- removing about 30 components present in a typical movement.
A monolithic silicon disc is used to vibrate at 18hz, well above the industry standard 4hz or the “High Beat” 5hz oscillators. While the world goes nuts for a new bezel or dial color year after year, Zenith has created a completely new method for timekeeping!
Supposedly, Zenith was not able to reliably scale up production, and couldn't get the new movements to consistently pass the COSC or Time Lab certification. This appears to be true, as the "Certified Chronometer" engraving is not on the rotor!
The storyline and current status of production makes me think of this timepiece as a prototype, and based on how silent Zenith has been for years now, even if production does ever start in the future, this special Yoshida release will remain an important piece of horological history.
This release was supposed to be 100 pieces, but there is no way of knowing how many were actually made and sold. Zenith will not answer questions about the Inventor.

After payment has been received, we ship out promptly using Fedex Priority Overnight, fully covered by a private insurance company. Packages are sent to a Fedex Office or Ship Center to be held for pickup. Armored carrier or personal delivery will be arranged for pieces valued over $150k.
