Up for sale here is the king of all Panerai’s, and an incredible piece of horological history. Ref. PAM00021.
Made in 1997 when Panerai was acquired by Vendome/Richemont, this was the first special edition made by the manufacturer. The story goes: when reviewing assets at the Panerai workshop in Florence, 60 New Old Stock movements were found- pristine examples of the original Rolex 618 that was used in the Panerai 3646.
The Panerai 3646 is an important part of Panerai’s history; it was the watch supplied to the Italian Navy in the 40s and 50s, praised for its legibility in all lighting conditions due to the size and lume, and of course, it’s waterproofness.
In 1997 the CEO of Panerai, Angelo Bonati decided to make a special edition to honor the original 3646, using the Rolex 618 movements that were found. Only 60 were made, since only 60 movements were found!
This timepiece comes as a full set as seen, with 2 Panerai straps and 2 thick leather NATO style straps. Shown mounted on a very nice Aaron Bespoke Ostrich leather strap.
The watch itself is in very good condition, and can be polished at the request of the buyer prior to delivery.
